The Lord Jesus is seen — verses 8–10

The Jewish authorities lie about it — verses 11–15

The commission to the eleven and to us — verses 16–20

8. Additional Study in Matthew:

a. PARABLES — The Lord spoke in Matthew 13 in parables for a reason. Note the question of his disciples in 13:10. His answer explains His use of parables.

Read 13:11

b. “PETER AND THE CHURCH” — Matthew 16.

Every believer should know that the church was and is not built on Simon Peter. The actual translation of Matthew 16:18 is “Thou art Peter [Petros, a stone] and upon this rock [petra, a mighty rock, i.e. Christ] I will build my church.” Christ founded the “ecclesia,” “the called out ones” on Him, the Rock of our salvation.

c. THE OLIVET DISCOURSE — Matthew 24 and 25.

This is our Lord’s own account of the end time. Studied together with all Scripture references in your Bible margin will help you.

d. THE SEVEN LAST WORDS OF JESUS ON THE CROSS

(Most people think they are all in one gospel in order. They are not.) Here are the Seven Last Words.

Luke 23:34 • John 19:28
